FORMING A TEAM
COMPETITION INFORMATION
General Guidelines and Rules for Conduct of Competition
Intramural Activities are generally programmed with a view toward the average student and their level of sport background. Where possible, however, some provision is made for individual difference in skill, experience, commitment and interest in competition in many sports.
General Guidelines to Levels Men's, Women's and Coed's
Most sports in the men's and women's programs offer a choice of skill levels of play. Where multiple divisions are offered, Division I is recognized as the strongest of the levels. This is the next highest level of competition outside intercollegiate sport that the department offers. These participants must be prepared for a greater time commitment in terms of practices and competitive schedule. As each sport is offered at multiple times, teams must be flexible in their availability to compete. Lower divisions provide opportunities for participants with some or no experience in the game. Beginners may learn from coaches or team mates. In coed activities, modified playing rules have been developed to accommodate male and female equated participation.
Entries and Player Registration
Colleges, Faculties & recognized groups within the University are generally the units of competition in the intramural program.
In Men's Sports, staff and faculty members of the AC may play for teams in Div. II and lower. Div. I is reserved for students only. In Women's sports, faculty and staff members of the AC may play for their units’ team at any level. Co-ed intramurals are open to any member of the U of T Athletic Centre. (Note: Staff members are those whose employment entitles them to receive the benefits plan from the University).
1. League Sports
a) Team Representatives must enter the number of teams desired by their college or faculty at the appropriate entry meeting for each sport. All entries must be signed by the College/Faculty Intramural Committee representative.
b) Entry forms should be completed thoroughly with the desired competition level for each team, team name, team representative's phone number, address, and email address. Note: Due to a high demand and facility constraints, there are a limited number of entries for each sport. Late entries or those over the quota will be placed on a waiting list and be used to replace teams as necessary. A maximum of two (2) teams per unit per division in a sport is allowed, unless there are still spaces available at the end of the entry meeting.
c) All Team Representatives must attend the entry meeting in order to enter a team in that league/tournament event in which general rules, captain’s responsibilities and other pertinent information will be discussed. In the Men's, Women's and Coed leagues, the top 75% of teams from the previous season are automatically re-admitted (based on order of regular season finish). The top two teams from a lower division may move up to the next highest division (college/faculty teams only). Teams draft for their schedule based on the regular season ranking (exceptions may be granted to Dentistry, Mississauga, Medicine, and Scarborough).
d) A complete list of players' names, signatures and membership numbers must be submitted to the Program Office before the team's second league game. Teams failing to do so may be penalized by the Eligibility Board or by the appropriate Program Manager, as per the penalty for playing an ineligible player.
e) Additional players may be added to a team at any time by filling out the appropriate form. All such additional forms must be submitted to the Program Office prior to participation through the Team Representative. This attendance sheet can be utilized in preparing playoff eligibility forms.
2. Tournament Sports
Each College, Faculty or School Representative must submit an entry form to the organizational meeting for that sport. Where no meeting is scheduled representatives must submit completed forms to the Program Office by the deadline indicated. If insufficient interest is shown, the activity may be cancelled. Note: A Participant's Release has been included on all Entry and Registration Forms to indemnify and save harmless the University of Toronto, their/its officers, instructors, coaches, employees, members and clubs from and against all claims, demands, losses, costs, damages, actions, suits or proceedings arising out of the participation of or in any activity whatsoever, whether on or off University property. Having signed the player registration form signifies compliance with eligibility rules and agreement with the Participants Release.
